"ARTS IN ACTION"

By Hannah Davis

For the past 8 weeks, all the fourth graders at Rashkis Elementary have been dancing in a program called "Arts In Action". Every Thursday and Friday we go to dance and practice our steps for the show we will do on April 27th at 7:00 pm in the gym.

Kirstie and Dana have been teaching us dances like "Hiphop to Handel" and "Moving to Mozart", which are packed with steps like "slap under the bridge", "kiwi", "coffee grinder", and "grapevine".

Being in the dance program, we also get to meet cool people like Merlin and Jacques. We were lucky to have them come to Chapel Hill because they both live and work in New York! Jacques is probably one of everybody's favorite teachers because he is funny and makes you want to put a lot of energy in your movements. Jacques and Merlin are both coming to the show on April 27th and Kirstie will probably introduce them to all of you.

When our class first heard that we were going to be taking dance class, we were all "bummed out" and thought it was going to be boring. But after the first day of dance, everybody changed their mind and now we like going to dance and learning new moves and hanging with our friends and Kirstie. Dancing in the Arts in Action Program is awesome!

Special thanks to Ms. Julie, who plays the piano while we dance.
