"DANCE IS AWESOME!"

By Kabir Kumar-Hardy

(This statement is from a boy who complained for weeks before hand about the Dance Program and tried everything he could, to avoid having to take part in the program.)

Our dance performances on Thursday, April 27th were very tiring. My favorite dance was "The Finale". I know how to do all the dance steps from the after school dance group even though I'm not supposed to do it. I also like our "Hip-Hop to Handel" expecially "The Groove Train". The music was a lot better with the entire band, especially the drummer, Carlton. Jacques was really cool also. He was always criticizing us, but it was worth it. Warning to the 3rd Graders: Kirstie is crazy but she was a wonderful teacher and a really great dancer. For some reason, I wasn't too nervous. I felt really confident when we started to do "basketball". (Each series of dance movements had an identifying name, such as "basketball")

I still don't know why I felt so confident. I really hope Arts in Action will come back and teach dance to the 5th graders next year. Sometimes at home I will break out dancing for absolutely no reason at all. In conclusion, dance is the most fun thing you can do at school.

2 SUCCESSFUL DANCE PERFORMANCES

By George Hito

On Thursday, April 27th, we had 2 big dance performances. One was in the afternoon and one was at night. The one in the afternoon was for the whole school, and the one at night was for parents. We were all really excited, but I was a little nervous. My little brother was in the second row and kept waving at me. Jacques, Kirstie, Brooks, Julie and many other people were also watching us.

The dance was fun and I got more confident with every move I made so I wasn't nervous anymore. My favorite move was "the kiwis" and my favorite part of the performance was "The Finale". The move that went first in "Movin' to Mozart" was "apples", then "bananas", then "cherries", then "durians", then "ethrogs", then "figs", then "grapes", and finally "basketball" and "tennis". Basketball was only for boys and tennis was only for girls.

Next was "Bop to Bach". Our group didn't do it, so we just waited in a hallway for our part. Then we went on stage and got into our positions. Then the curtain opened. We all walked down in groups and started to "Hip-Hop to Handel".

After that was over, we started "The Finale". Some teenage girls started doing ballet for the first part. After that, Kirstie made a little speech and the All-Stars did their dance. Then we all did the last part of "The Finale". We said good-bye and went into the cafeteria to eat cookies, cake and punch. It was fun! I wish we could do it again!!
