Congratulations to Holt Elementary Language Academy and its fourth grade students and team for their magnificent performances yesterday in “The Collision: Technology Meets the Arts.” Finishing their sixth year with NC Arts in Action, this year’s program was written and directed by Alton Tisino, with musical direction by Doug Largent. Assistant Direction was by Sue Smith. Donya Jones is Principal of Holt, and Amy Beckett is NC AIA School Liaison. Yolanda Rabun shone as The Robot Narrator.
During their session, students were introduced to the characteristics of dance, the importance of focus, of supporting each other, and the use of choreography to create dances that communicate ideas, feelings and images. They showed the power of dance as they explored the binary code, electromagnetism, cell phone technology and the antics of robots in their final performance.
Thank you to the PNC Foundation for their $25,000 gift to sustain the program at Holt. This project is also supported by gifts from the Durham Arts Council Annual Arts Fund and the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Oh behalf of the children we serve, thank you to parents and our guests for attending both performances. Thanks also to our wonderful supporters for making this program possible.
Please consider a donation to Arts in Action to help keep our children dancing through four counties!
